Contraindications

Kambo is a powerful, sacred medicine with profound healing potential. However, it is not suitable for everyone. To ensure a safe and effective experience, it is crucial to understand and adhere to the following contraindications and preparation guidelines.

Medical Conditions That Contraindicate Kambo
 

Kambo is not recommended for individuals with the following conditions:
 

  • Aneurysm

  • Active ulcers

  • Addison’s Disease

  • Brain injuries

  • Blood clots

  • Heart conditions (of any kind)

  • Prolonged diarrhea (lasting several days due to electrolyte imbalance)

  • Severe asthma (requires prior assessment; inhaler mandatory)

  • Diabetes (requires insulin, testing strips, and food during treatment)

  • Gastric sleeve or band surgery

  • Organ transplant recipients

  • Stroke
     

Mental Health Contraindications
 

Certain mental health conditions may pose risks when working with Kambo:
 

  • PTSD (only with advanced practitioners)

  • Bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, psychosis, or personality disorders

  • History of psychiatric conditions (must be disclosed prior to treatment)
     

Medications and Kambo: Important Guidelines
 

Some medications can interfere with Kambo or increase risks. These medications and substances should be avoided:
 

  • Antipsychotics

  • Antiepileptics

  • Antidiuretics (must be discontinued at least 5 days before treatment)

  • Diuretics

  • Antibiotics (should not be taken simultaneously with Kambo)

  • Benzodiazepines (requires a withdrawal period of 4 weeks before treatment)

  • Weight-loss medications (e.g., Ozempic; refrain for 2 weeks prior to treatment)

  • Alcohol and recreational drugs (abstain for at least 48 hours before treatment)
     

Note: Anti-depressants and contraceptive pills can usually be skipped on the morning of treatment and resumed afterward. Always consult your practitioner for specific advice.
 

Other Contraindications
 

Kambo treatment is not suitable for individuals in the following situations:
 

  • Pregnancy

  • Breastfeeding (under 6 months postpartum)

  • Within 21 days of childbirth

  • Recent surgeries (within 8 weeks post-operation)

  • Recent chemotherapy or chemo medications (within the last 6 weeks)

  • Recent Bufo use (must wait 8 weeks)

  • Recent COVID vaccination (wait at least 6 weeks post-vaccination)

  • Under 18 years of age
     

Pre-Treatment Guidelines
 

To prepare your body and mind for a safe and effective Kambo experience, follow these steps:
 

  • Fasting: Avoid eating for at least 8 hours before your session.

  • Water Intake: Limit water consumption to small sips on the day of treatment.

  • Alcohol and Recreational Drugs: Abstain for at least 48 hours before treatment.

  • Diet: Consume a substantial meal the day prior to your session to ensure your body is nourished.

  • Fasting Practices: Avoid juice or water fasting for 48 hours before Kambo.

  • Activities: Refrain from saunas, sweat lodges, or intense exercise 24 hours before treatment.
     

Transparency and Safety
 

Your safety is the top priority. To ensure this, full transparency about your medical history, current medications, and past conditions is essential. This allows your practitioner to tailor the treatment to your needs and minimize risks.
 

  • Qualified Practitioner: Always work with a trained and certified Kambo practitioner.

  • Open Communication: If you have any doubts or questions, consult your practitioner before your session.
